Jan Hoffman French (Ph.D.Anthropology,
Duke University; J.D.University of Connecticut Law School)
is Assistant Professor ofAnthropology at the University
of Richmond. Her postdoctoral fellowships include Kellogg
Institute for International Studies and Rockefeller
Foundation fellowship at Northwestern University. A
former attorney in Brazil and the U.S., her articles
have appeared in the American Ethnologist, American
Anthropologist, and The Americas.
This
Sawyer Seminar, funded by the Mellon Foundation, includes a year-long
series of working group meetings
and mini-conferences on the central theme of globalization and
the land. It is hosted by UNC's Center for Global Initiatives.
